About

This blog is by an Estonian discovering her childhood dream country Canada. Based in Toronto, but sometimes traveling. Looking for an Estonian connection in the far away country and giving away tips about what to see, what to do, what to experience. Hence the name of the blog: Toronto. Canada. Estonia.

Toronto still

This is how the east downtown looks like, a bit surprising, eh?

Squirrel

Very typical view in Toronto, if you are looking around :)

Swan

Wow, the great swans are so....huge and majestic. I was quite close, so had to move away when the bird was approaching me. So beautiful!

Rose-hip

The area is definitely beautiful and offerinc some good photo opportunities.

Chickadee

I captured this tiny chickadee looking for some afternoon snack.

Hunt

Not a likely scene to see - a seagull is after a ofsprey. I am sure it was some little baby situation, as the predator probably wanted to snatch them or something. Anyway, I am glad I got a shot of them hovering over the little pond.

Birdhouse

Today not so much of excitement by the birhouse where I encountered that lovely cardinal, but I saw my new friend nuthatch there.

Nuthatch

During winter I really haven't had luck to encounter any animals nor birds, but I was happy to do so when I headed out for my daily photo walk. The bird I noticed looked a lot like a bird back at home -white wagtail. But the beak was a bit different and therefore I knew that this is a new species I ws just learning about.

This is a nuthatch.

A common feeder bird with clean black, gray, and white markings, White-breasted Nuthatches are active, agile little birds with an appetite for insects and large, meaty seeds. They get their common name from their habit of jamming large nuts and acorns into tree bark, then whacking them with their sharp bill to “hatch” out the seed from the inside. White-breasted Nuthatches may be small but their voices are loud, and often their insistent nasal yammering will lead you right to them.

Pigeon mania!

I haven't been to Venice, but most of the biggest cities in Europe, but I have never seen anything like that before - so many pigeons all at once! WOW!

Susan is getting eaten

Since all the pumpkins are out there to eat, then the chance has been taken by many squirrels. Like this one, munching eagerly away on Susan!

Seagulls are the hit

The most popular models in Niagara Falls were seagulls. Many were brave enough to be close to people, probably used in getting food from them. Here are some shots of one.

Exposure vol. 1

My friend Peeter invited me over to participate at a photography fair called Exposure. For an avid photography lover it was a great offer, I was thrilled to get there and explore what the fair has to offer. Apparently it had to offer much more :O than I could imagine. They had parrots posing for you and also lizards and such.

Creepy crawler!

I have never lived in the basement apartment. Sure it has its perks, as it is cool during the hot summers-falls in the big city, but also its flaws, as you may get some uninvited quests :D It happened to me! I freaked out when I first saw it, as it was h u g e! I captured one, took a photo and took it outside. Ugh!

Red-winged blackbird

Scarborough Bluffs was a great place to get to know and do some photography on red-winged blackbird. Here are two shots of the male bird in front of different backgrounds. Read more about the bird HERE.

Swan

What a wing-span!

My friend invited me to see the miracle of the east end. That is a Scarborough Bluffs! More photos to come from there.

Canadian Parliamentary Cats

I had heard a little about this interesting volunteer-run base for cats in Parliament Hill. I finally was able to see it myself and how cool it actually was. Though I once had already seen it in summer, but due to lush green I couldn't get a very good glimpse, but still saw and took photos of my first raccoon. Basically it is a place where stray cats get food and home due to a number of volunteers who help to run the place. It has become a good tourist attraction and something so Ottawa. When in there, definitely go and have a look.

Tiger loves my laptop

Family cat Tiger was really eager during Christmas Day when he probably felt a need for extra love due to a holiday season. She showed that definitely nicely on my laptop.
